Annapolis, Odenton men arrested for attempting to solicit sex from minor

sex offendersDuring the week of September 29th, 2014, investigators with the Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Child Abuse Unit began communicating online with individuals who were soliciting young females on the internet for sex.

The investigators posed online as a 13-year-old girl. During these communications the suspects solicited the investigators and suggested they meet for a sexual encounter.

On September 30th, one suspect attempted to meet what he believed to be a “13-year-old” at an undisclosed location in Anne Arundel County. Once he arrived at that predetermined location he was taken into custody and identified as Arthur Gene Strissel. Strissel was arrested and charged with Sexual Solicitation of a Minor.

On October 1st, a second suspect attempted to meet the “13 year-old” for purposes of a sexual encounter at another undisclosed location. He was taken into custody and identified as Nigel Wesley Scott. Scott was arrested and charged with Sexual Solicitation of a Minor.

Detectives from the Child Abuse Unit participate with the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. They have received specialized training to conduct these types of investigations.

  • Suspect: Arthur Gene Strissel III, 42, Unit block Spa Road, Annapolis, Maryland. Strissel is being held on $250,000.00 bond.
  • Suspect: Nigel Wesley Scott, 29, 500 block Retreat Court, Odenton, Maryland. Scott was released on $20,000.00 bail.

EDITOR’S NOTE:  According to online records, neither men have any criminal history. There is no explanation why identical crimes/charges were subject to such a significant difference in bail.
