3 rescued from Harbor House apartment fire in Annapolis

On Saturday, October 18, 2014, at 0248 am, Annapolis Fire Department units were dispatched for a reported “Apartment Fire”, in the 1200 block of Madison Street in Eastport. Fire crews arrived in approximately three (3) minutes, and found smoke coming from the 3rd floor of a middle of the group, garden style apartment.

Bystanders reported that people were trapped on the 3rd floor. Crews immediately deployed ladders to the 3rd floor balcony and rapidly rescued three people from the 3rd floor front apartment. Simultaneously, crews advanced hose lines into the building. The fire was located in the 3rd floor rear apartment and quickly extinguished.

One of the civilians who was rescued has been transported by Annapolis Fire Department paramedics to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. The nature and extent of the patient’s injuries are unknown at this time.

In addition to the Annapolis Fire Department, Anne Arundel County, and the Naval District Washington – United States Naval Academy Fire Departments, also responded to the blaze. The fire was placed under control at 03:45.

Representatives for the Housing Authority City of Annapolis (HACA) and the Red Cross are on scene to assist the displaced residents.The total number of residents displaced is not yet clear, as investigators and inspectors continue to survey the damage.

The cause and origin of the fire, and damage estimates, are not yet available. The Annapolis Fire Department will continue to update as additional information is available.
