Annapolis Rotary sponsors free talk on Southern Sudan

rotary_logoTheil Theil[CQ], project manager of Mobile Health International with the Radler Foundation in South Sudan, will provide updates on events in that country along with BJ Goergen[cq], foundation director, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Carrol’s Creek Café, 410 Severn Ave., Annapolis. The public is invited to attend.

Mr. Theil, a former member of the Annapolis Rotary and former employee of the Light House Shelter in Annapolis, directs MHI, which trained 68 community health volunteers with preventative health education last year. He is reaching 60 new villages in 2014. MHI is one of the only organizations of its kind that provides this education which empowers communities to take ownership of their country’s healthcare system and participate in its improvement.

Ms. Goergen oversees the Radler Foundation’s work in the United States and the work of East African Ministries in South Sudan and Uganda. She manages the daily operations and builds strategic partnerships for the future. She has more than 10 years of government and non-profit experience, including work at the National Math and Science Initiative, the U.S. Department of State and the White House. A journalism graduate of Baylor University with a law degree from Southern Methodist University, she serves on the regional board of HOPE International, a microfinance organization.

The East African Ministries (eamafrica.org) also leads Water Harvest International and Leadership Development International, projects that provide clean water and comprehensive training on water health and sanitation as well as develops leadership for South Sudan.
