midsummerBallet Theatre of Maryland announces its 2014-2015 Season Grand Opening in the newly renovated theater at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis when BTM celebrates Shakespeare’s 450th birthday with the premiere of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, October 24, 7:30 p.m., October 25, 7:00 p.m. and October 26, 2:00 p.m.

You chose fairies, fantasy, humor, and romance from the pen of our greatest poetic sage—William Shakespeare—as the “Vote Your Choice” for a brand new ballet production to grace the stage of our newly renovated theatre.  “It has been a real challenge to capture the complexity of Shakespeare’s Characters and his language through the imagery of dance,” says BTM’s Artistic Director Dianna Cuatto, “but I think you will find it to be as splendidly delightful as my dancers have — full of beauty and humor.”  Children will delight in the antics of the Fairies while you will delight in the poetry of Shakespeare’s themes as expressed through the language of dance set to Mendelsohn’s magnificent score. Alexander Collen stars as Oberon, the Fairy King, with Meagan Helman and Gaia Rappaport sharing the role of Titania, his Queen.  The most impish fairy creature of them all, Puck (Robin Goodfellow) is played by Aaron Bauer.  Romance, magic and humor abound in this wonderful adaptation of Shakespeare’s only fantasy.  You will experience all of this in a nearly “brand new auditorium” with new and improved seating, theatrical lighting, stage curtains and more to make your experience even more magical.

And of course, if you attend our 2:00 P.M. Sunday Matinee on Sunday, October 26, you can attend our FREE Fairy Tea Party one hour prior to the performance complete with treats, and photographs with your favorite dancers in their Midsummer fairy garb. Come dressed as your favorite fairy, elf, imp or goblin or come dressed as yourself and be prepared to have the time of your life.
