charged with crimeOn September 12, 2014, officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department met with a victim who advised that she was shopping at the Apple Store in Annapolis Mall when her iPad was stolen.

The victim accidentally left her iPad on the display counter near the exit door.  She returned to the store later in the afternoon when she discovered it was missing.  As a result she placed her iPad in “lost mode” displaying her phone number with message reading “I’m lost please contact.”

Detectives worked with the Apple Store and were able to retrieve video surveillance of the incident. The video showed the suspects, a male and a female, in close proximity to the iPad as it sits on the table for almost 10 minutes. The video clearly shows them look at the IPad.  After several minutes of this, the male suspect walks away.  The female then picks up the IPad and walks to him at the rear of the store with the IPad in plain view in her hand.  They then exit the store together with her still holding the IPad in her hand in plain view.

The suspect contacted the victim and claimed that the iPad was purchased on Craigslist. Detectives attempted to meet with the suspects, but they did not show up at the predetermined location. Detectives were able to use investigative techniques to determine who the person was that called the victim.

Detectives were able to confirm the identity of the suspects from the video surveillance. One suspect was an officer with the Prince Georges County Police Department. On October 3, 2014, they were both charged with the crime.

Suspect 1: Temitope Adebayo Asaya, 30, male.

Suspect 2: Tykina Marie Anderson, 24, female of Capitol Heights, MD
