Rocksgiving Tournament to benefit CBT and Bowen Family Foundation

RocksgivingChesapeake Harbour Marina is proud to announce Rocksgiving, Annapolis’ premiere Striped Bass Fishing Tournament.  The tournament will be held at Chesapeake Harbour Marina on Saturday, November 15, 2014 and will benefit the Bowen Foundation for Autism and the Chesapeake Bay Trust.  Prizes include $100,000 for a striped bass that breaks the Maryland state record (67.8 lbs.), $10,000 for the first striped bass weighing more than 55 lbs. delivered to Chesapeake Harbour Marina and several other prizes.

Rocksgiving will kick off on Friday, November 14, 2014 with the Captain’s happy hour, hosted by Sam’s on the Waterfront, taking place from 6-8 pm.  The tournament on Saturday begins at 7 am and boats must be dockside by 4 pm.  Following the tournament, Sam’s on the Waterfront will host a post-tournament party from 4-8 pm featuring the awards ceremony, music and Striped Bass Pale Ale provided for registered Anglers.

“As a company, we make it a priority to invest in opportunities that promote sustainability and stewardship of our local marine environment – a tournament that promotes sustainable fishing practices and supports the Chesapeake Bay Trust – it is just a perfect alignment with the values of our company”, says Eric Bradley, General Manager, Chesapeake Harbour Marina and Rocksgiving Tournament Director.  “To be able to also lend support to The Bowen Foundation for Autism is particularly meaningful. My son, Jake is autistic and given the stats that autism affects one of 42 boys – this is really a healthcare crisis in this country.  I’m grateful to the Parks family and all the sponsors for their generous support for two important organizations doing a lot of good work in our community” – says Bradley.

Rocksgiving already has a substantial group of sponsors including: the title sponsor – Devils Backbone Brewing Company, presenting sponsor – Adams Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Chesapeake Whalertowne, PropTalk, Sam’s on the Waterfront, Homestead Gardens, DatocWitten Group, MSSA Annapolis Chapter, and many others.  Sponsorship opportunities are available and range anywhere from $2,500 to $500.

“It’s very exciting to be a part of this inaugural event, benefitting two meaningful causes,” says Cara Flynn of Devils Backbone Brewing Company.  “Devils Backbone has deep ties to the Chesapeake Bay, as our brewery is tucked in the Heartland of  Virginia. We have the Chesapeake Bay Watershed to thank for the quality water that allows us to brew consistent and award winning beer.  As a result our Striped Bass Pale Ale is brewed to support the continual education and preservation of the Bay.  From every case sold we donated $1, totaling over $42,000 in 2014.  We look forward to continuing our impact with the Rocksgiving fishing tournament this fall.”

Registration for one boat with up to four anglers runs $250 until September.  The price goes to $300 in October.  Additional anglers may be added to boats at an additional fee.  All fish must be caught in the Maryland waters of the Chesapeake Bay as allowed by Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Bradley’s expectation for the outcome of the tournament is, “We raise lots of money for two great charities and that we produce a first class event that becomes a fixture in the local fishing community.  If we that the Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Bowen Foundation should benefit for years to come.”
