Edwards appointed as Cadet Commander

Photo1Cadet Captain Morgan Edwards was recently appointed as the Cadet Commander of the Civil Air Patrol’s Annapolis Composite Squadron during a formal change-of-command ceremony at Lee Airport in Edgewater. She was selected for this position in recognition of her many accomplishments and outstanding leadership abilities.

Cadet Edwards, a 17 year-old Senior at Broadneck Senior High School, has been a member of the Civil Air Patrol since 2011, and is a model cadet. She attended the annual Tri-Wing Encampment for the past three years, first as a student and twice as a cadet staff member. She is a graduate of the Air Force Space Command Familiarization Course at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, and recently graduated from the Cadet Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. Earlier this summer, Edwards was one of six Maryland cadets who were accepted into the Robert Ayers Memorial Flight Scholarship Program, a weeklong course of instruction culminating with her solo flight in a Cessna 172 and earning the Civil Air Patrol Solo Badge. Her awards include the Air Force Sergeants Association Squadron Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Award and the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ Cadet Officer Award. Prior to assuming command, she held a variety of key leadership positions within her squadron, with each position bringing more challenges and opportunity for personal development.

The position of Cadet Commander carries numerous responsibilities, which include setting goals for the squadron, establishing plans, policies and procedures, coordinating staff activities, making personnel recommendations, leading drill and ceremonies, and maintaining the standard of excellence within the unit.

Cadet Edwards aspires to attend Virginia Tech or Embry-Riddle College of Engineering to study aerospace engineering. She also is considering commissioning sources such as the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets and Air Force ROTC to pursue a career as an officer in the US Air Force.
