AYC announces new Junior Sailing Program Director

aycThe Annapolis Yacht Club (AYC) is pleased to announce that Dillon Paiva will assume the fulltime role of Junior Sailing Program Director on August 11, 2014. Dillon will manage the Junior Sailing programs at AYC including the C420 program, high school sailing, as well as the summer program.

Currently residing in Raleigh, North Carolina, Dillon has developed an extensive racing and coaching background that make him the perfect candidate for this position. “We’re really excited to have him as part of team,” says Joel Labuzetta, Sailing Director of Annapolis Yacht Club. Dillon graduated from Old Dominion University, where he was a four-year varsity sailor. In December of 2013 he graduated with a BA in English, focusing on Teacher Preparation and was awarded Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2014. His qualifications from US Sailing include Safe Powerboat Handling, Race Support Boat Endorsement, Safety and Rescue Support, and Level 3 Small Boat Sailing Instructor. In 2012, he was on the US Sailing Olympic Development Team for Men’s 470, was nominated as ICSA Outstanding Sportsman of the year in 2012-2013, and was named TCIS Sailing Coach of the Year in 2013.

Dillon’s experience with teaching and coaching has included positions such as Varsity Sailing Coach for Norfolk Collegiate School, Head Sailing Instructor at Sail Nauticus, Race Team Coach at Bellport Bay Sailing Foundation, and Sailing Instructor at Lake Crabtree County Park (Summers 2007 – 2010).

Dillon’s racing experience is equally extensive having competed in many Collegiate sailing events, including; the 2013 Coed National Championship, 2012 Truxton Umstead Regatta, and 2012 Hobart William Smith Intersectional. In addition, his racing experience includes the 2011 Rolex Miama OCR – Men’s 470, 2010 Club 420 North Americans, and 2009 & 2010 Club 420 Nationals.

Dillon’s many years of racing and coaching experience and qualifications make him the perfect candidate for this position at AYC. “We’re really excited to have him as part of the team,” says Joel Labuzetta, Sailing Director at AYC.
