Baysox 2013IMG_9950With their playoff hopes hanging in the balance, the Baysox got a dominant start from knuckleballer Eddie Gamboa who shut down Erie for eight innings in a 3-0 Baysox win.

The victory keeps Bowie alive and eliminates Erie from 2014 playoff consideration.

Bowie took the lead in the second inning as they loaded the bases with one out. CF Mike Yastrzemski then grounded out into a fielder’s choice to bring home a run giving the Baysox a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth inning with Rosa at second base and two down LF KD Kang homered again. His fourth of the series and 12th of the year went out to left-center field and Bowie had a 3-0 lead.

That was plenty enough for Gamboa. He allowed a first inning single off a fastball and a second inning ball hit off the wall in the second inning with two down. Aaron Westlake tried to turn it into a double but RF Garabez Rosa threw him out to end the inning. Erie did not register another hit off of Gamboa.

Closer Oliver Drake notched a save for a third consecutive day and his 31st of the year. He is now just one shy of the Baysox record posted by Julio Manon in 2008.

The Baysox will return for a four-game series Labor Day Weekend with the Altoona Curve Friday, August 29th. Fireworks will follow the August 30th game. Sunday and Monday will be 2:05 p.m. starts. For tickets to the final home series of the year, contact the Baysox at 301-464-4865 or purchase online at baysox.com.

Nick Additon will be on the hill for the Baysox who more than likely will need to win to stay alive in the playoff chase. First pitch Friday night is at 6:35 p.m. and the game can also be heard on wnav.com.
