Opening up a new range of culinary possibilities, Cleo’s Fine Oils and Vinegars introduces olive oil in a caviar-like presentation.

“Caviaroli smells and tastes like extra virgin olive oil, but bursts onto the palate like caviar,” said Saleta Cameron, owner of Cleo’s Fine Oils & Vinegars.  “We discovered it at the Fancy Food Show in New York in July and were blown away by the presentation and taste. We could not wait to bring it to the Annapolis area.”

Caviaroli is an encapsulated olive oil that mimics the delicate composition of caviar. Created in 2008 in the kitchen of famed Spanish Chef Ferran Adria, the retail olive oil caviar is also produced in Spain.

Cleo’s Sesame Seed Oil Caviar will debut locally at Luna Blu’s Wine Dinner Sunday, August 31, at 5 pm, to benefit Box of Rain. As one of five courses, Chef Erin Dryden will offer a Pan Seared Tuna in Crispy Wonton with a Carrot and Cucumber Slaw topped with Cleo’s Sesame Seed Oil Caviar.

The Wine Dinner is $70 per person, with ten percent donated to Box of Rain, an Annapolis educational and mentoring program for children. For reservations, contact Luna Blu (36 West St., Annapolis) at 410.267.9950 or [email protected]

“Olive oil caviars are very eye-catching on plate,” Cameron said. “In addition to the great taste and texture, they add a ‘wow’ factor home chefs will love.”

You can purchase a variety of olive oil caviars, such as Basil, Rosemary, Sesame Seed, Chili and a Spanish Extra Virgin Olive Oil, at Cleo’s in the Annapolis Towne Centre. For more information, contact 410.266.5540 or [email protected]
