The DC Ad Club, in collaboration with the American Advertising Federation (AAF), honors one person annually who has made outstanding contributions to advertising and who has been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern.

Recipients of the Silver Medal Award are recognized for their contributions to their companies, the general advancement of advertising, and the community and for their creative ability. The award is bestowed at an event held in the fall of each year. Recipients are also listed in materials distributed nationally by the AAF.

The 2014 Silver Medal Award recipient is Alan Weitzman, Founder and Executive Creative Director, Weitzman.

Originally from London, England, Alan attended Clarks College and founded Weitzman in 1974. An award-winning copywriter, published songwriter, and exhibited photographer, his honors include two Gold CLIOs – including the first one ever won by a Washington, DC agency. Less than 1% of entries receive the coveted Gold CLIO. Over the years, Alan and his agency have won seven First Place International ANDYs, a Gold and Silver Medal in the New York Film Festival, numerous Certificates of Merit from the Art Directors Club of New York, and more than a hundred other awards including The One Show and the American Advertising Awards (formerly the ADDYs).

Alan has been quoted in TIME and BusinessWeek, and was a contributing writer to the book, The Profit Makers. He is a member of the Country Music Association, the Nashville Songwriters Association, and the Naval and Military Club in London.
