Berry strong in Baysox win

Baysox 2013IMG_9784Baysox starter Tim Berry set the tone and the bullpen shut the door as Bowie grabbed a 4-1 win in Trenton Sunday night. Berry went six innings, allowing just one run in the winning effort.

Down 1-0 in the fourth inning, Bowie grabbed the lead. RF KD Kand doubled to right field with one down and came around to score on a single to centerfield by SS Garabez Rosa. With two down in the inning, C David Freitas brought home Rosa with a line drive base hit to left field. The Baysox led 2-1.

Berry continued to get stronger as the game continued and he gave way to reliever Matt Bischoff who got through two bumpy innings. He walked two batters in the seventh and eighth frames but got big double play balls to get out of the innings unscathed.

Bowie got some insurance in the eighth inning. 2B Buck Britton singled and DH David Adams walked to open the inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Kang moved the runners in, a wild pitch brought home Britton. Adams scored later on a single through the drawn in infield by Rosa. It was 4-1.

Oliver Drake then entered and worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his second save of the night and his league leading 25th save of the year.

The Baysox have an off day Monday and get back at it in New Britain against the Rock Cats on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Eddie Gamboa will start for Bowie with coverage beginning 20-mintes prior to first pitch on wnav.com.
