The Annapolis Police Department has arrested three individuals in connection with an assault on July 21 that injured two men while walking along Franklin Street. The investigation centered on the Clay Street community and the police department felt the wrath of the public when it was discovered that police were taking photographs of black teens. Many concerned residents testified at the City Council meeting last week and alleged that it was nothing more than racial profiling.
From the Annapolis Police Department release:
On Saturday, August 2nd Detectives from Annapolis Police Department served a search and seizure warrant at a home in the 100 block of Clay St and arrested Albert Gross, 20, a 14 year old male, and a 12 year old male, all from Annapolis. All three were arrested for their involvement in the two robberies that occurred on July 21st in the unit block of Franklin St.
On July 21st at 11:43 p.m. two men were walking separately on Franklin St when they were approached from behind and assaulted and robbed by five to eight young males. The assailants took a wallet from one man and a wallet, keys, and cell phone from the other man. The assailants fled on foot towards Cathedral St. Both victims had visible injuries to their heads, and one was knocked unconscious.
Through investigation Detectives identified Albert Gross and two juveniles as suspects in both robberies. They obtained arrest warrants for Gross charging him with two counts of robbery, two counts of theft, and first and second degree assault. Gross is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond. The two juveniles were charged with the robberies on juvenile citations.
“We credit the proactive police work that lead to the identification of three people charged in this offense,” said Annapolis Police Chief Michael Pristoop. “And for this, we should all be thankful.”
