Londontowne Symphony announces 2014-15 schedule

From the spooky sounds of Halloween to the magic of Christmas and the grandeur of Hollywood, the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra (LSO) will treat audiences to some of the best-loved works of the classical repertoire in its 2014-2015 season, Meet the Masters!

The LSO will continue its collaboration with the Ballet Theater of Maryland with two complete performances of The Nutcracker in December, along with a staging of Suite Nos. 1 and 2 from Bizet’s Carmen in March. The LSO’s annual Young Artist Competition will continue this season as well, culminating with the Young Artist Concert in April.

Under the direction of acclaimed conductor and LSO Music Director Anna Binneweg, the orchestra promises to delight listeners of all ages in its eleventh season, Meet the Masters! See below for a full schedule of concerts.

Virtuosity, Song & Dance – Calvary United Methodist Church

Soprano Mary Anne Barcellona will complement the LSO during selections from Dvorak, Grieg, Lehar and Stravinsky, along with a performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8.

Spooky Sounds, Haunted Harmonies – South River High School

In preparation for Halloween, the LSO will play some of the darkest melodies of the classical canon: Bach’s Toccata and Fugue, Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and Saint-Saen’s Danse Macabre, among many others!

The Nutcracker with the Ballet Theater of Maryland – Bowie Center for the Performing Arts

The LSO joins the Ballet Theater of Maryland in two special performances of Tchaikovsky’s beloved Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker!

Featuring selections from The Mission, Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz, The Pink Panther, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Red Violin and more, along with a tribute to The Beatles.

Carmen with the Ballet Theater of Maryland – Bowie Center for the Performing Arts

Dancers from the Ballet Theater of Maryland will team up with the LSO once again to offer Suite Nos. 1 & 2 from Bizet’s Carmen.

Rising Stars – Location To Be Disclosed

The three winners of the Londontowne Symphony Orchestra’s Young Artists Competition will be featured as soloists in three concerto selections, along with a performance of Sibelius’s Swan of Tuonela.

Mastery and Triumph – Broadneck High School
In the season finale concert, the LSO will open with Carl Maria von Weber’s Overture to Oberon; then, Rene Hernandez will perform Oskar Boehme’s Concerto for Trumpet & Orchestra in F Minor; finally, the orchestra will conclude its season with Brahms’ Symphony No. 1.
