Davidsonville

On July 26, 2014 at approximately 2:16 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a car and a motorcycle at the intersection of Davidsonville Road and Governor Bridge Road in the Davidsonville area.

The investigation determined that a 2007 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle was traveling south on Davidsonville Road approaching Governor Bridge Road. A 2004 Toyota Avalon pulled from a flashing stop signal for the west side of Governors Bridge Road and into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was unable to stop and struck the driver’s side of the Toyota Avalon. The motorcycle operator was subsequently ejected from the motorcycle onto the roadway.

The motorcycle operator, Timothy Joseph Humphrey, was transported by Maryland State Police Helicopter to University of Maryland Shock where he is listed in critical condition. The driver and passenger of the 2004 Toyota Avalon were transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries.

The cause of the collision appears to be failure to yield right of way on the part of the operator of the Toyota. Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be contributing factors in this crash. The operator of the motorcycle was wearing non-compliant headgear. The States Attorney’s Office will be consulted prior to any charges. The investigation continues.

Edgewater

On July 26, 2014 at approximately 5:26 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Police Traffic Safety Section responded to a motor vehicle collision involving an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) on Welchs Drive in the Edgewater area.

The investigation determined that a Yamaha ATV was traveling north on Welchs Road approaching Daisy Circle. The driver of the ATV began braking prior to the intersection. While braking, the ATV’s left front tire went off the side of the roadway and onto the grass edge of private property. The ATV’s left front tire struck the tongues of two (2) small trailers that are stored on the property. The impact with the trailers tongues caused the ATV to overturn and the driver was ejected onto the roadway.

The ATV operator, a 17-year-old male, was transported by Maryland State Police Helicopter to University of Maryland Shock where he is listed in critical condition.

The cause of the collision is driver error and speed is a contributing factor. The vehicle is unregistered and the operator is not licensed. Additionally, the operator was not wearing a helmet. The investigation continues.
