Davies deals in Baysox win

Baysox 2013IMG_9783Baysox starter Zach Davies pitched seven one-hit innings for the Baysox Sunday afternoon as the team avoided the sweep with a 2-0 win over Binghamton. The Baysox last three home victories have been in series finales’ when facing a possible sweep.

Davies struck out four batters while walking two in the win. Over his past two outings, Davies has pitched 13.0 shutout innings and allowed just three hits. Kyle Johnson recorded a hit in the first at-bat of the game for Binghamton and the B-Mets did not record another hit until the top of the ninth inning.

The Baysox struck first in the bottom of the third inning against Binghamton starter Matt Bowman. David Adams hit a lead off single to center field and moved to second base on a David Freitas groundout. K.D. Kang drew a two-out walk and Niuman Romero followed with a single to right field that plated Adams to give Bowie a 1-0 lead.

Kang added to the Baysox lead with a solo home run to right-center in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 2-0.

Baysox reliever Marcel Prado pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Baysox, walking one batter. Closer Oliver Drake picked up his league-leading 16th save of the season, throwing a scoreless ninth inning and allowing two hits while striking out two batters.

Bowman took the loss for Binghamton, throwing seven innings and allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking one.

RHP Tyler Wilson (8-5, 4.14) takes the mound for the Baysox Monday as the team opens a three game home series with the Trenton Thunder. He will be opposed by LHP Manny Banuelos (0-1, 3.57)

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, June 25 for a six game homestand with games against the Binghamton Mets and Trenton Thunder. Promotional highlights include Mutt Monday, June 23 at 6:35 p.m. and Dollar Dog Night Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
