Wilson lands a perfect 10 for Baysox

Baysox 2013IMG_9937Just minutes from his childhood home, Baysox starter Tyler Wilson powered his way through seven scoreless innings, striking out nine batters to earn his tenth win of the season in a 3-0 Baysox win in Richmond. The win made Wilson the second Eastern League pitcher to double digit wins.

Bowie jumped in front in the second inning after three hits did not provide a run in the first inning. LF Chris Marrero doubled to leadoff the frame and with one down scored on a single to center by 2B Garabez Rosa. With two down, Rosa came to the plate on a basehit from RF Ronald Bermudez and the Baysox led 2-0.

Wilson then went to work. A runner did not reach scoring position after the second inning as Wilson grounded the Flying Squirrels with a nine strikeout effort. It was the fifth time this season he has fanned eight batters or more in a start.

Richmond, down 3-0 in the eighth inning, did load the bases with two down. 3B Mario Lisson then grounded a ball towards the middle. Rosa ranged to his right to backhand and threw across his body for the out and the threat was diverted.

Drake got five outs for his league leading 19th save of the year. The two-hit shutout was the third shutout for Bowie this year. The Baysox have won 11 of their last 14 games. Wilson is now only the second pitcher to reach the ten-win plateau. He has won five consecutive starts.

Looking to keep the ball rolling will be LHP Eduardo Rodriguez for the 1:35 p.m. series finale Sunday afternoon, June 29th. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior to first pitch on wnav.com.

Bowie returns home for a four-game series with Altoona beginning Monday, June 30th at 6:35 p.m. Fireworks will follow the July 3rd game deemed the Red, White and Boom Independence Day Celebration. For tickets contact the Baysox at 301-464-4865 or order online at baysox.com.
