B-Mets blast Baysox

Baysox 2013IMG_9997The streaking Binghamton Mets (42-31) snapped the Baysox (37-35) four-game winning streak with a 12-4 win Friday night. The B-Mets jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the second inning and after the Baysox crept back to within two runs, used a three-run eighth inning to put the game away.

Playing with the Baysox on a Major League rehab assignment, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Nolan Reimold had his best game so far. He hit an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning and followed with his first home run of the season in the seventh inning on the way to going 2-for-3 with a walk on the night.

The B-Mets struck first in the top of the first inning against Baysox starter Jake Pettit. Brian Burgamy hit a one-out double to right field and scored on a two-out single to shallow center field from Matt Clark to give Binghamton the 1-0 lead.

The Baysox came back to tie the game 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning against Binghamton starter Hansel Robles. Niuman Romero drew a one-out walk and Reimold followed with a double to center field that scored Romero.

Binghamton kept the runs coming in the top of the second inning. The first two batters on the inning walked and Xorge Carrillo followed with a single to left field to bring home one run. Dilson Herrera followed with a single to right field to plate another run and put runners on the corners and Kyle Johnson then brought Carrillo home with a sacrifice fly to right field. The B-Mets strung together two more hits to bring home the fourth run of the inning and reliever Jason Gurka then replaced Pettit on the mound. Clark grounded out to shortstop to bring home the fifth and final run of the inning and give the B-Mets a 6-1 lead.

Bowie cut into the Binghamton lead in the bottom of the third inning. Romero drew a lead off walk and Reimold followed with a home run to left-center field to make the score 6-3.

The Baysox got another run back in the bottom of the seventh inning against Binghamton reliever Randy Fontanez. K.D. Kang hit a one-out triple to right field and scored on a Romero groundout to make the score 6-4.

The B-Mets put the game away in the top of the eighth inning against Baysox reliever Chris Petrini. Dustin Lawley hit a lead off home run to center field and Travis Taijeron drew a one-out walk. Carrillo followed with a home run to left field to give Binghamton a 9-4 lead.

Binghamton added to the lead in the top of the ninth inning against Baysox reliever Juan Morillo. A walk and a pair of singles loaded the bases with one out and Morillo then walked Taijeron to bring home a run. Corrillo followed with a groundout that brought home a second run and the final run of the inning scored on a Herrera single to right field to make the score 12-4.

Pettit pitched one and one-third innings and allowed six runs on six hits while walking two in the loss. The outing by Pettit snapped a streak of five consecutive quality starts by Baysox pitchers. Gurka pitched four and two-thirds scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and walking one while striking out four. Petrini pitched two innings and allowed three runs on three hits while walking one and striking out one. Morillo pitched one inning and allowed three runs on three hits while walking two and striking out two.

Robles picked up the win for Binghamton, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on five hits while striking out three and walking three.

LHP Tim Berry (4-3, 3.94) takes the mound for the Baysox Friday as the teams plays the first game in a three game home series with the Binghamton Mets. He will be opposed by LHP Steve Matz.

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, June 25 for a six game homestand with games against the Binghamton Mets and Trenton Thunder. Promotional highlights include Louie’s Birthday Bash Saturday, June 21 at 6:35 p.m. and Orioles Pride Day Sunday, June 22 at 2:05 p.m.
