Robbery leads to police chase which leads to car fire in Annapolis

An observant citizen called police when he saw a 15 year old boy being held on the ground and punched in the face by a male suspect who also took the boy’s cell phone and sneakers.

The suspect fled with another male subject before police arrived.  When officers arrived they met with the witness, as the victim initially left the area.

Officers noticed a vehicle leaving the area of the robbery and recognized the driver from prior contacts as a 16 year old boy without a valid driver’s license.  Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Forest Dr, but the driver did not stop.  The vehicle continued outbound on Forest Dr and sideswiped a minivan on Route 665 near Vineyard Rd, causing minor damage.

The vehicle continued until the engine compartment began smoldering and it stopped near the intersection of Solomons Island Rd and Old Solomons Island Rd.

The three occupants fled the vehicle on foot and officers were able to apprehend the driver and front passenger.  The rear passenger could not be located.

The driver, a 16 year old boy from Annapolis, was cited for numerous traffic offenses and was transported to Cheltenham Youth Facility.  The front passenger, an 18 year old boy from Annapolis, was cited for possession of CDS and released.

The victim of the robbery returned to the scene and spoke to officers.  The victim reported that he was assaulted and robbed by two male suspects.  The third occupant of the vehicle is believed to be one of the robbery suspects and property taken in the robbery was recovered from the vehicle.  The robbery investigation is ongoing.
