This month a two-day Summer Choral Festival, organized by The All Children’s Chorus of Annapolis (ACCA) is being held on June 26th for  musically gifted singers entering 4th, 5th, and 6th grades in the fall . Designed to further develop musicianship and vocal skills it is funded with a strategic grant from the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County  The ACCA festival  is being held at the Annapolis Area Christian School in Severn and Dr. Philip Silvey , Assistant Professor of Music Education at the Eastman School of Music,  will serve as Festival Guest Conductor.

This wonderful opportunity for young singers was made possible by the Arts Council’s Strategic Grant Program which encourages nonprofits to approach their outreach goals in innovative ways.  The Arts Council of Anne Arundel County distributes grant money to over 40 different Arts and Historic preservation organizations in Anne Arundel County.  This past year checks totaling $60,000 were written to nine nonprofit organizations.

Founded in 2001, ACCA  is an auditioned community youth chorus for students age 7-18. ACCA singers receive professional-quality instruction in all aspects of vocal production, musicianship and choral perform. ACCA singers perform through AA County, the state of Maryland and participate in an annual tour within the US and abroad.

“I’ve been very pleased with the innovative use of this new grant program, and look forward to seeing the creativity that will be presented in the 2014 Strategic Grant requests,” says Arts Council Executive Director April Nyman. “ Applications will be available online after September first on our website www.ACAAC.org for Arts Organizations that have previously received grants from the Arts Council.  Now is the time to start thinking of how your organization can take a different approach to reaching a new audience.”

The Festival schedule is 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and a closing concert will be held on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Kerr Center for the Performing Arts, Annapolis Area Christian Upper School at 109 Burns Crossing Road in Severn Maryland. Interested students must be recommended by their music teacher and financial aid is available. For registration information, visit their website at www.allcca.com.
