Southern Maryland Blues Festival announces stellar lineup (August 23-24, 2014)

Southern MD BluesChesapeake Bay Events, Inc. (CBE) announced today that lineup has been finalized for the 2014 Southern Maryland Blues Festival.  Although the most of the bands in the lineup has Blues as its core genre, the lineup is a mixture of Blues, Soul, Zydeco, Southern Rock and Classic Rock. ” Our hope is that those who come for other forms of music will fall in love with the Blues” adds Don Hooker, Promoter.

The Saturday lineup includes Royal Southern Brotherhood which is comprised of  Devon Allman, son of Gregg Allman, Cyril Neville of the legendary Neville Brothers and guitar virtuoso, Mike Zito.  Also on Saturday is Irma Thomas, Soul Queen of New Orleans whose career spans 50 years and has been covered by  many artists including the Rolling Stones and Otis Redding.

Closing Saturday is The Spin Doctors.   Although well known for their 1991 album, “Kryptonite”, that sold 10 million copies, they have recently released a Blues album, “If The River Was Whiskey”, which has met with rave reviews.

Other Saturday performers are Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas, Jonathan Boogie Long and Southern Maryland Sisterhood of Soul w/Patty Reese, Lisa Lim, Little Margie Clark and Julia Nixon.

Sunday bands include Rich Robinson of The Black Crowes.  Songwriter and cofounder of The Black Crowes with his brother Chris, Rich Robinson, who wrote “She Talks To Angels” at age 15, will release his solo album “The Ceaseless Sight” on June 3, 2014.

Closing the festival is the legendary Leon Russell.  This Rock and Roll Hall Of Famer has written songs, like “Delta Lady”, “Tightrope”, “A Song For You”, “Lady Blue” and “Wild Horses” He has been covered by countless artists, such as The Rolling Stones, Peggy Lee, Ray Charles, Amy Winehouse, Joe Cocker, Whitney Houston.  Since the early sixties, he has played and recorded with a wide variety of performers including: Frank Sinatra, Jan and Dean, Gary Lewis, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Doris Day, Eric Clapton, Byrds, Beach Boys, Ventures, Willie Nelson, Badfinger, BB King, Dave Mason, Glen Campbell, Tijuana Brass, Rolling Stones Joe Cocker and more.

Other performers on Sunday are Guitar Shorty, The Samantha Fish Band, Mac Arnold and Plate Full O’ Blues and Bobby Messano.

As with all CBE festivals, we will donate all net proceeds to worthy, local charities.  We are currently in the selection process for choosing those charities.
