Lana Del Ray, Bastille, Fitz and the Tantrums, Hozier knock it out at Sweetlife (IMAGES)

Sweetlife 2014

Sweetlife ScheduleWe had every intention of live blogging the festival complete with Tweets and Instagrams and Vines. But either Verizon Mobile or Merriweather Post Pavilion had other plans because nothing of substance was getting out over the airwaves–perhaps because everyone was having a great time sharing!

But for the fourth year, the Sweetlife Music and Food Festival did not disappoint in any way, shape or form.  Parking was fine, traffic was fine, and despite a few showers…the weather was damned near perfect.

The headliners included, Foster the People, Lana Del Rey, Fitz and the Tantrums, Bastille, Hozier, Chromeo, and more on two stages.

Hozier, who will be appearing at a WRNR Private Artist Showcase this week at St. Anne’s Church in Annapolis, was the chillest set with some of the most dramatic lighting.  Fitz and the Tantrums and Bastille had the crowds on their feet. And when Dan Smith, the lead singer for Bastille walked off the stage, into the pavilion and up to the lawn seats, the crowd went absolutely wild.

Without a doubt, the hit of the night was Lana Del Rey.  Del Rey came out to shrieks from the crowd–to be honest, it was the loudest crowd reaction I have seen in a while. Del Ray’s songs are mostly very dark and based on her years as a young alcoholic.

We caught up with an older fan who said that her own son was going through a similar situation with drugs and alcohol and she sees Del Ray as a positive influence for her son. “Yes, it can be bad. Real bad. But, you can do it; you can pull yourself up and be up on stage.”

As always with a music festival, images speak louder than words….
