Great Give pulls in $675,000 in 24 hours

Great Give 2014A year ago, Bess Langbein, the Executive Director of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County was riding high after raising $606,000 in 24 hours in an inaugural event. He smile took a different turn when the bar was set for 2014–$1 million dollars!  It was a tall order and a very aggressive goal. Ultimately, the effort fell a bit shot on the dollars, but was a resounding success in every aspect!

The grand total raised was $675,467.  Other goals of the effort were shattered! They wanted 150 participating non-profits, they got 170. They wanted 5,000 unique donors, they got 6,246.

Combined with 2013, the Great Give have channeled over $1.3 million into the budgets of local non-profits that continue to struggle with budget cuts and increased demand.

Residents of Anne Arundel County really came through as did many corporations who ponied up additional prizes which were distributed throughout the 24-hour online event.

Last night, nearly 500 people celebrated the success of the event at Maryland Live! who was a founding partner and sponsor of the Great Give.

While the goal is to raise money, the initiative also serves to introduce many to philanthropy which can come in many ways. It proves that many people coming together with small amounts can make a big difference. The average donation was just over $100 and there were thousands of $10 donations–each as valuable as the next and each making a difference.
