Baysox wash away SeaWolves

Baysox ImageIn a game that was delayed an hour because of rain that continued to fall throughout the evening, the Baysox (25-20) outlasted the Erie SeaWolves (18-25) for a 5-1 victory. After three consecutive wins to open the series against Erie, The Baysox have hit a new high-water mark at five games above .500.

Jake Pettit recorded the longest outing of the season for the Baysox, throwing eight innings and allowing one run on four hits while striking out one and walking two in the win.

After waiting out the rain, the Baysox got the scoring started in the bottom of the third inning against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Johnny Ruettiger hit a one-out infield single and scored on a Chih-Hsien Chiang double to center field. With two outs, Christian Walker brought Chiang home with a single to left field to give Bowie a 2-0 lead.

The SeaWolves got one run back in the top of the fourth inning against Pettit. Devon Travis reached on a force out, moved to second base on a groundout and scored on a two-out single to left field from Ramon Cabrera to make the score 2-1.

David Adams gave the Baysox a 3-1 lead with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Bowie added another run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Erie reliever Ryan Robowski. With one out, Robowski walked the bases loaded and Dariel Alvarez brought one run home on a sacrifice fly to make the score 4-1.

The Baysox added one more insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning against Erie reliever Will Startup. Adams hit a one-out single to right field and Ruettiger hit a two-out double to center field to bring Adams home.

Baysox reliever Steve Hensley pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Baysox, walking one batter.

The Baysox are home through Thursday, May 22 for a four-game homestand against the Erie SeaWolves. The series concludes with Most Improved Student Night on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. The Baysox depart for a four game road series in Harrisburg Friday.
