Baysox fall 8-2 in Harrisburg

Baysox 2013IMG_9950Bowie had a runner in scoring position with less than two men out in each of the first three innings but scored just one run in an 8-2 loss in Harrisburg on Sunday evening.

With the game’s first five hits, the Baysox had hopes for more. But 3B Niuman Romero was thrown out at third base to end the first, LF Johnny Ruettiger hit into a double play with the bases loaded to end the second and a one-out Romero double was left stranded in the third inning.

Things became unraveled for Baysox starter Tim Berry after a strong start. Berry retired the first eight batters in just 17 pitches before allowing a two-out double in the third inning. Leading 1-0 in the fourth inning Harrisburg grabbed control of the game.

Back-to-back doubles opened the frame as the Senators pushed three runs across to take a 3-1 lead. The Baysox answered though as Ruettiger tripled to right-center field and scored on an RBI-single from RF Chih Hsien Chiang. Later in the inning Romero was thrown out at the plate to end the inning by Senators CF Michael Taylor after a single by CF Dariel Alvarez.

Taylor would leadoff the following inning with a solo home run to right-center field. It was his league leading 13th of the year. Later in the inning RF Kevin Keyes added on to the Harrisburg lead with a two-out two-run home run. Harrisburg added two runs in the eighth inning for the final margin.

With the loss the Baysox have dropped two in a row in Harrisburg after winning seven of the first eight games of the season series. The Baysox are still winners of nine of their last 13 games and remain three games in back of Akron in the Eastern League’s Western Division.

The series closes Monday, May 26th at 2:00 p.m. with LHP Jake Pettit looking to win a third consecutive start. Coverage begins at 1:40 p.m. with the Baysox On-Deck Show on wnav.com.

Bowie returns home Tuesday, May 27th for a six-game homestand with Akron and Richmond. On Thursday, May 29th the hit show Duck Dynasty’s Mountain Man will make an appearance at the ballpark. For tickets contact the Baysox Box Office at 301-464-4865 or purchase online at baysox.com.
