A world premiere comes to Annapolis in the new play, “Another Day on Willow Street” by Frank Anthony Polito, opening May 9, 2014. “Two couples fight to learn the meaning of love, sacrifice, and living for today…before it’s too late.” This edgy drama, appropriate for ages over 16, tells the story of two couples, one gay and one straight, in the days leading up to 9/11. Frank Anthony Polito is an award-winning playwright, author and actor. His plays have been produced in New York City, where he recently resided for over 18 years, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Columbus, and Omaha.
The story – Wall Street investment banker, Ian Brown, and his eight months pregnant wife, Stacy Gold, live in a beautiful Brooklyn Heights brownstone on Willow Street. When Stacy gives up her book publicist job to become a stay-at-home Mom, she soon gets bored with sitting on the Promenade, sipping Starbucks. With time on her hands, Stacy begins to fear losing what little intimacy she and Ian have left once the baby arrives.
Aspiring actor, Mark Gray, and his lover, Paul Green, have been living long-distance for the past two years. Mark keeps a studio on Willow Street, while Paul works as a lawyer in Boston, near his sick mother. When Mark learns of Paul’s mother’s dying wish to see him marry her son, he is faced with the reality of finally coming out to his parents. With time running out, Mark soon discovers what committing himself fully to another person truly entails.
Director Rick Wade has been involved in community, college, dinner and professional theatre in the Baltimore
Washington area for more than 40 years. Renata Plecha, who received a BFA from the University of Minnesota Guthrie Theater Actor Training Program and recently appeared in Compass Rose Theater’s production of Romeo and Juliet, will play the role of Stacy. Frank Turner is a graduate of American university and most recently appeared in Light in the Window at The Fridge. Mr. Turner will play the role of Mark. Ric Andersen previously appeared with Compass Rose as Montague (understudy) in Romeo and Juliet and Bob Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird and will play the role of Ian. The part of Paul will be played by Michael Fisher, who received training from Shakespeare Theater Company and performed in Angel Street at Olney Theater Center.
Performances are held at Compass Rose Theater, located at 49 Spa Rd, Annapolis, Maryland 21401, across from The Westin Hotel. Our theater is fully wheelchair accessible. Admission is $35 for adults, $30 for seniors and military (with a valid ID), and $20 for students (with a valid ID). Runs Thursdays-Sundays May 9-31. Adult themes, appropriate for ages 16 and up.
