Annapolis recognizes legacy businesses

Open For BusinessAs part of National Preservation Month, Annapolis Mayor Mike Pantelides and MainStreets Annapolis Partnership (MAP) President Steve Samaras announce the 2014 Legacy Business Awards Ceremony.

The third annual MainStreets Annapolis Partnership (MAP) Legacy Business Awards took take place on May 28 at the Calvert House, Historic Inns of Annapolis. The awards recognize the businesses’ commitment to:

  • The stewardship of their properties
  • The rich family histories associated with the business
  • The generations of Annapolitans whose careers began with these local businesses
  • Their role as ambassadors for Annapolis

The event honors twelve businesses and institutions that demonstrate a commitment to serving residents and visitors while supporting the economic vitality of our neighborhood business districts. This year’s event showcases businesses and schools in the traditional neighborhood districts of Annapolis that have been in existence for more than 50 years.

“Support for small business and local institutions is critical to the economic vitality and overall quality of life in Annapolis, “Mayor Pantelides said. “I applaud our legacy businesses and institutional award recipients who contribute so much to our community.”

“These recipients have been benefiting residents and visitors for more than 50 years with a wide range of services,” Samaras added “We’re also proud to recognize the legacy established by our outstanding educational institutions, St. Mary’s Schools, Eastport, Annapolis, and West Annapolis Elementary Schools. This year we are also introducing the inaugural Presidential Award To Graul’s in recognition of the substantial reinvestment and reinvigoration of their Taylor Avenue grocery store.”
