A Blue Angel practice run (PHOTOS)

At 11:00am on the dot the skies over Annapolis filled with the roar of the engines of  six military aircraft. The Blue Angels had returned after a three year hiatus.  In 2011, their aerial acrobatic show was cancelled at the last minute due to an unsafe maneuver and the squadron was grounded by their commander. In 2012, due to the former Superintendent’s change of graduation date, the Blue Angels had a scheduling conflict. And in 2013, the Federal government sequester grounded them.  But here we are in 2014 and they are back and Annapolis could not be any happier.

They practiced for 2 hours over the Severn River this afternoon in preparation for the show tomorrow–also from 2pm to 4pm. The weather is calling for scattered thunderstorms and if it is unsafe to fly, they will not perform and the show will not be rescheduled. Eye On Annapolis spoke with LT Mark Tedrow (#6 Opposing Solo Pilot) yesterday and he said a recent show in Rhode Island had them flying in 30 MPH winds, rain, and a 1000′ ceiling. So, fingers are crossed for a break tomorrow!
