The Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre kicks off its 2014 season with the musical theatre classic 42nd Street.  This high-energy, family-friendly show opens Thursday, May 22 and runs Thursdays-Sundays at 8:30pm through June 21.  Tickets are $20.

42nd Street is a big, bold musical celebration of the transcendent joys of Broadway.  Based on the 1933 movie-musical of the same name, this timeless story of a down-on-his-luck producer, an aging prima donna, and an aspiring starlet thrust into the spotlight transports the audience to the heart of the Great White Way.

Last performed at ASGT in 1993, 42nd Street is filled with show-stopping dance and musical numbers, including “We’re in the Money”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “Shuffle Off to Buffalo”, “You’re Getting to Be a Habit with Me”, “Getting Out of Town”, and “42nd Street”.

Director/Choreographer Kristina Friedgen returns to ASGT after appearing in 2011’s Chicago.  She has directed and choreographed for community theatres and high schools throughout the DC metro area, and assisted at regional theatres including Signature, Round House, and Olney Theatre Center.  Recent directing credits include Les Miserables, The 1940s Radio Hour, and Parade.  She has choreographed All Shook Up, Thoroughly Modern Millie, and A Chorus Line at The Arlington Players (assistant choreographer), which was nominated for a WATCH award (Washington Area Theatre Community Honors).

Tickets are on sale now for 42nd Street and ASGT’s other 2014 productions: SHOUT! The Mod Musical, and Monty Python’s Spamalot.  Visit www.summergarden.com to purchase, or call 410-268-9212 to make a reservation.

Volunteer ushers are still needed for the season.  To get involved, e-mail [email protected].

Founded in 1966, ASGT is an all-volunteer community theatre presenting “theatre under the stars” at its historic location at City Dock in Annapolis.
