Schuh fires back at Neuman

Steve SchuhSchuh for County Executive Campaign Manager Diane Croghan has responded to Laura Neuman’s press release claiming she didn’t spend taxpayer money on trips and politically connected staff.

“Laura Neuman just can’t help herself. After numerous instances of ethical lapses during her time in office, she issues a press release from Anne Arundel County with campaign rhetoric,” Croghan said. “Then she goes on to mislead the taxpayers on her spending.”

Last summer, Neuman and several members of her staff attended a conference in Ocean City and billed taxpayers a total of $8,000, according to County records. Neuman wrote a personal check for three nights of her stay at the Hilton Suites Ocean City Oceanfront resort, but did not reimburse the County for the remaining five nights or pay taxes on the room. She also failed to mention the expenses her staff and her security detail billed to the County.

In the press release issued by her office yesterday, Neuman also touts having less “full-time, benefit positions” in response to fact that she has hired several politically connected employees at high government salaries. She does not mention the contract employees she hired or the large raises given to new employees in existing positions.

All of the claims by the Schuh campaign are backed up by County budget documents and records obtained under the Maryland Public Information Act.
