24th Annual Old-Fashioned Strawberry Festival (June 7, 2014)

On Saturday June 7th the 24th Annual Strawberry Festival of the Ann Arrundell County Historical Society will be held at 7101 Aviation Boulevard at Andover Road in Linthicum. The family friendly festival will have fun historical games for kids and strawberry treats of every variety from wine to strawberry shortcake.

Join the Anne Arundel Historical Society for a day of family fun at the Benson-Hammond House, 7101 Aviation Boulevard at Andover Road in Linthicum for a Strawberry Festival celebrating the agricultural history of Anne Arundel County.  The Saturday June 7 thevent will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and feature home-made strawberry short cake, chocolate-covered strawberries, strawberry wine and beer as well as kids? activities including everything from ice cream churning to planting beans. Savor home-made strawberry shortcake, hand-dipped chocolate-covered strawberries and strawberry lemonade;  custom labeled strawberry jams, preserves, and butter and relishes; strawberry wine made for the society by the Linganore Winery of Mt. Airy MD using only the fruit of fresh strawberries. New this year will be Strawberry Beer and other beer selections.  Re-enactors in period costume will teach ?Junior Historians? hand-churning strawberry ice-cream, the spinning wheel and the old-fashioned washboard, and planting beans. To further delight, the Children?s Theater of Annapolis will perform at 2:00 p.m.

Musical cultural heritage ?The Rhythms and Rhymes of American Folk Music? will be presented by Pennsylvanian folk singer Ed McDade at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.; local musicians The Three-4-All Trio will serenade with old tunes at noon.  Chow down on Buddy?s Pit Beef, Ham and Turkey sandwiches and hot dogs; Brewster?s Ice-Cream; and fresh strawberries and other veggies from Vince?s Produce.  See historic tractors on site and tour the House and view the newly exhibited Sandra Sue Dollhouse, product of a company from Eastport.

Hand -made original needlework, quilts, jewelry, candles, honey and the woodwork of local crafters will be on sale as will home-made baked goods and carefully selected used books.

Free parking on Airport Lot A with shuttle bus service to the Festival is available.  There is no charge for admission to the Festival, which benefits the Benson Hammond House and the Historical and Genealogical Research Center at the Kuethe Library in Glen Burnie MD. The rain date is Sunday, June 8.
