Fleet Feet launches Zoomerangs Kids Training Program

Fleet FeetToday, almost 70% of Americans are overweight, and a third of our nations’ children and adolescents are overweight or obese. At Fleet Feet Sports, we believe change starts with our children, and in our city – the movement has just begun. The newly launched Zoomerangs Kids Training Program kicked off with a “bang” on Sunday, April 27th in Annapolis, MD with twenty-five kids age 4-11 in attendance along with numerous parents and coaches. The kids were taught about proper warm-up, cross-trained with games and activities – and yes, even learned how to run properly while having fun.

“Our end goal with the program is to help kids discover what they are capable of, and build confidence in their ability to engage with movement.” said Scott Broerman, co-owner of Fleet Feet Sports in Annapolis and Severna Park. “We know how powerful accomplishing a 5K or even 1-mile run can be – and we want kids to build those experiences early on so that they’re empowered to accomplish their goals throughout the rest of their lives.”

The Zoomerangs Kids Training Program is a 6-week program that meets every Sunday at 3:30pm at Bates Middle School track with an end goal of completing a target run distance depending on the child’s age and ability. Each session, kids are educated about different topics in health including nutrition, stretching, and goal setting. Program cost is $30, or $5 for a “drop-in” session, and will re-launch in fall 2014.
