Big innings propel Baysox

Baysox 2013IMG_9682After a sluggish start to the series offensively, the Baysox bats came to life in the fourth inning on Tuesday night. Facing big league left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez, Bowie blasted two, three-run home runs in a seven-run inning that propelled the Baysox to an 11-7 win in Altoona.

The inning was the biggest for the Baysox in 2014. Trailing 2-0, SS Niuman Romero led it off with a four-pitch walk which was followed by a single by 2B David Adams. The next pitch was launched high over the left field wall by 1B Christian Walker and just like that Bowie was on top 3-2. The home run was the seventh on the season for Walker. Five have come with runners on-base.

Bowie would get another blast later in the inning. With a fourth run already home and two men on up stepped DH KD Kang. Kang got into one sending it the opposite way, into the left field bleachers to push Bowie to a 7-2 lead.

In the eighth inning the Baysox put the game away. With one down 3B Sharlon Schoop doubled deep to left-center field. After a walk to C Brian Ward, Kang lined an RBI-single to left field. That finished off a 4-RBI game for the designated hitter.

Later in the inning on top 9-5, CF Dariel Alvarez singled home two more runs wioth two men down to lead 11-5.

Baysox starter Tyler Wilson allowed five runs, four of which earned in five hard fought innings for his league leading fifth win. The victory was a landmark one for the franchise. It was the 1,500th in the 22-year history of Baysox baseball.

Bowie concludes their series in Altoona on Wednesday night at 10:30 a.m. LHP Tim Berry will be on the mound for the Baysox . Coverage begins 20-minutes before first pitch on wnav.com.
