That’s a lot of crabs! Rotary announces grants.

CrabFeast07_64The Rotary Club of Annapolis has announced grants totaling $71,200 from the net proceeds of the August 2013 World’s Largest Crab Feast. The club received requests from 72 non-profits for nearly $186,000. It was able to fund 38 of the requests, says Elaine Shanley, past club president and grants committee chairman, of Annapolis.

Most of the grants this year were designated for community, health, and human service organizations.

Recipients and amounts distributed are:

 

  • $4,500 – Meals on Wheels, Partners in Care, Sarah’s House, and Wellness House of Annapolis.
  • $4,000 – Food Link Inc. and the Light House Shelter.
  • $3,500 – Rebuilding Together
  • $2,800 – Services from the Heart
  • $2,500 – Anne Arundel County CASA Inc., Creating Communities, and Hospice of the Chesapeake (Life Center)
  • $2,400 – Seeds for Success
  • $2,000 – Boys and Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, and We Care and Friends (Stanton Summer Camp)
  • $1,500 – Annapolis Green, Back Pack Buddies of Heritage Baptist Church, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Lutheran Mission Society, Samaritan House, and the Volunteer Center of Anne Arundel County.
  • $1,000 – Annapolis Film Festival, Annapolis Maritime Museum, Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation, Arts Council of Anne Arundel County, Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Co., Chesapeake Children’s Museum, Children’s Theatre of Annapolis, Cystic Fibrosis, Eastport United Methodist Church, Faces of Valor USA, Historic Annapolis Foundation, Leadership Anne Arundel, Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, and Opportunities Industrialization Center of America (Anne Arundel County Inc.)
  • $500 – Box of Rain Foundation, Chesapeake Regional Accessible Boating, The ARC of Central Chesapeake Region, and World Artists Experience.

 

Now 93 years old, the Rotary Club of Annapolis raises funds each year at its annual crab feast to distribute to local organizations to improve the quality of life in the community. The club will sponsored the 69th annual World’s Largest Crab Feast from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis.
