Spring caregiver workshops offered at County senior centers

aadeptagingCaregivers are invited to attend the three Spring Caregiver Workshops, “The Dementia Series: Living in the Land of Oz…continued,” to be held at 6 of Anne Arundel County’s senior activity centers beginning in March and continuing through June. They are presented free by the National Family Caregiver Support Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities.

Topics of the workshop series are:

 

  • “Lions, Tigers, and Bears. Oh, My!”  In this workshop caregivers will learn about normal and not-so-normal emotions, how to effectively manage stress, understand the meaning of the “Ah Ha!” moment, and learn essential coping skills to empower them to walk through the woods bravely.
  • “If I were King of the Forest…” No one can change the fact that progressive dementias, like Alzheimer’s disease, are fatal. In this workshop, caregivers will learn the importance of an Advance Directive, how to make decisions about life sustaining treatments, the importance of palliative care, and the meaning of healthy grieving.
  • “We want to see the Wizard.” In this workshop caregivers will learn how to mend, strengthen, and maintain their physical, emotional & spiritual selves through good nutrition, setting limits and maintaining boundaries, and nurturing spirit.

 

The workshop schedule is:

 

  • April 7, from 2:00-4:00 p.m., Annapolis Senior Activity Center, 119 South Villa Avenue, Annapolis.
  • April 10, and 17, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road, Arnold.
  • April 7, 14, and 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., O’Malley Senior Activity Center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton.
  • May 1, 8, and 22, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., South County Senior Activity Center, 27 Stepneys Lane Edgewater.
  • June 2, 9, and 16, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie.
