Long balls foil sweep attempt

Baysox 2013IMG_9590Senators CF Michael Taylor Hits 3 Home Runs and Baysox Fall 10-7.

Harrisburg CF Michael Taylor hit a home run on the first pitch thrown to a Senators batter amidst a three-home run day as the Baysox attempt at a sweep fell short on Sunday afternoon. Bowie fell by a final score of 10-7.

Taylor hit his third, fourth and fifth home runs of the year as the driving force behind a 10-1 seventh inning Harrisburg lead. Senators DH Ricky Hague homered as well for Harrisburg.

But the Baysox battled back getting six straight runners aboard in the seventh inning. Down 10-3 with the bases loaded and one out, 2B Garabez Rosa doubled to right-center field scoring three runs.

Bowie got a two-out RBI-double from CF Dariel Alvarez to cut the lead to 10-7 in the eighth inning but got no closer. The Baysox did get the tying run to the plate with two down in the eighth inning.

It was a tough start for LHP Tim Berry who had not allowed more than one run in his previous four starts. Berry allowed nine runs in four innings getting his first loss of the year.

The loss ended a six-game losing streak for Harrisburg against the Baysox. The Senators had also dropped six in a row overall. Bowie is now 12-11 and 1.5 games behind Richmond who they will now visit for four gamnes.

The series begins Monday, April 28th Baysox with RHP Zach Davies getting the start. Coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. with the Baysox On-Deck Show for the 6:35 p.m. first pitch on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in the city.
