BaysoxA three-run first inning was not enough as the Baysox could not hold off Erie on a cold, rainy evening at Jerry Uht Park. The Baysox fell in the series opener in seven innings 4-3.

After a two-hour and 18 minute rain delay that featured a great effort by the SeaWolves front office in ably preparing the field, the Baysox went to work.

With one down, SS Niuman Romero singled sharply up the middle. That was followed by a single to center field by 3B Buck Britton. 1B Christian Walker brought them both home lashing a two-run triple to right-center field and the Baysox were on top 2-0. A batter later, CF Dariel Alvarez made it a hit in 12 straight games with an RBI-single up the middle scoring Walker for a 3-0 lead.

Bowie’s bats went cold following though as 16 of the next 17 Baysox hitters were retired.

Erie then went to work against Baysox starter Eduardo Rodriguez (1-2). The SeaWolves got a two-out solo home run from DH Wade Gaynor in the second inning to get within 3-1.

Then with two outs and a runner at second base in the fourth inning Erie got a walk and an infield single to load the bases. Up came 1B Aaron Westlake who hit a breaking ball on an 0-2 pitch the other way, to the left field wall near the line to score all three runners. The three-run double gave Erie a 4-3 lead.

Bowie would get runners on the corners in the sixth inning but failed to score.

Tuesday, April 15th the Baysox continue their three-game series in Erie with RHP Tyler Wilson (2-0) on the mound. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on wnav.com.

Bowie returns home Thursday, April 17th for Pi(e) Night to celebrate the mathematical equation and the tasty treat. Akron will be in town for the 6:35 p.m. start. Get tickets by calling the Baysox at 301-805-6000 or by purchasing online at baysox.com.
