Baysox struggle in Richmond

BaysoxDespite 11 hits, the Baysox (13-12) scored just one run in a 3-1 loss to the Richmond Flying Squirrels (14-10) Tuesday afternoon. The Baysox hit just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and lost for just the third time this season when outhitting their opponent.

The Baysox struck first in the top of the second inning against Richmond starter Jack Snodgrass. Garabez Rosa hit a one-out double to right field and scored on a Ronald Bermudez single to center field to give Bowie a 1-0 lead.

Richmond tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning against Baysox starter Jake Pettit. Kelby Tomlinson hit a one-out double to center field and moved to third base on a balk before scoring on a single to left field by Eliezer Zambrano.

The Flying Squirrels took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Myles Schroder hit a lead off infield single, stole second base and scored on a Jarrett Parker triple to left field. Marcel Prado then replaced Pettit on the mound and surrendered an RBI double to Angel Villalona to make the score 3-1.

Pettit pitched five innings and allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two in the loss. Prado pitched two innings in relief and allowed one hit while striking out two. Reliever Ashur Tolliver pitched the eighth inning for the Baysox and struck out two batters.

Richmond reliever Phil McCormick picked up the win, pitching two and one-third scoreless innings and allowing three hits while striking out two batters.

RHP Matt Bischoff (1-1, 3.79) takes the mound for the Baysox Wednesday as the team plays the third game in a four game road series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He will be opposed by RHP Clayton Blackburn (1-2, 1.80).

The Baysox return home Friday, May 2 for a three game home series against the Erie SeaWolves. Promotional highlights included fireworks on Friday and Saturday night plus Bark in the Park Day Sunday, May 4 beginning at 2:05 p.m.
