Alvarez dazzles in 14-2 Baysox win

Baysox 2013IMG_0041For the Baysox, Friday night was well worth the wait. After a 52-minute rain delay, Bowie went to work scoring a season-high 14-runs on 23 hits in a series-opening 14-2 win in Harrisburg.

It started in the second inning when Bowie got four consecutive singles to start the inning. When DH Buck Britton was thrown out at home to end the inning Bowie had tallied three times on seven hits.

On the hill was RHP Matt Bischoff who made it through 4 and 2/3rd innings before giving way to RHP Marcel Prado. Prado (1-1) came on with runners at the corners and two down in the fifth inning and got 1B Matt Skole to strike out swinging to end the inning. He would work 3 and 1/3rd scoreless innings for the win.

The Baysox bats got back to work. RF Chih Hsien Chiang and CF Dariel Alvarez doubled to begin the seventh inning. 2B Garabez Rosa singled home Alvarez to make it 6-2 Bowie. After 1B Christian Walker doubled home a run in the eighth inning, Bowie scored seven runs in the ninth.

Amidst the ninth inning rally were the first back-to-back home runs of the season for Bowie. Walker and Chiang did the work, the first time Bowie had back to back homers since August 30th of last year (Joseph, Loman).

Alvarez went 5-for-6 in the game with four runs and an RBI. The five hits were a career-high. Harrisburg brought in position player Sean Nicol to pitch in the ninth inning. The runs and hit totals for the Baysox were season highs.

Saturday, April 26th at 6:00 p.m. RHP Tyler Wilson goes to work looking for his fourth win. It will be game two of the three game weekend series with coverage beginning at 5:40 p.m. on wnav.com.

Bowie returns home Friday, May 2nd to open a three-game weekend series with Erie at 6:30 p.m. Call the Baysox at 301-805-6000 or visit online at baysox.com to purchase tickets.
