In Vino Veritas returns to St. John’s College (April 25-26, 2014)

In Vino VeritasThe Friends of St. John’s College, in conjunction with Bay Ridge Wine and Spirits, welcome the community to the fourth annual wine event and fundraiser, “In Vino Veritas.” This two-day event is full of activities that will appeal to the both the connoisseur and the curious. With more than 100 wines, this year’s Grand Tasting takes participants on a tasting tour around the globe as well as to our own backyard, to visit the world’s premier wine growing regions and producers. Participants meet the vintners and sample the featured wines. An array of hors d’oeuvres rounds out the sampling. Throughout the afternoon, participants who want to learn more about the world of wine may attend workshops. A panel of St. John’s College alumni winemakers will discuss the trials, tribulations, and rewards of winemaking on the East Coast verses the West Coast. Music by Paul Cullen, former bassist for Bad Company, a silent auction, and sales of wine-related books and merchandise complement the tasting.

Tastings will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium on Saturday, April 26 from 1 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $75 for general admission. Workshops will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Tickets are $45 to $110 for each workshop. To purchase tickets, and for a complete schedule of events: http://invinoveritasannapolis.com. Proceeds fund scholarships for St. John’s undergraduate students.

This year’s Judgment of Annapolis will feature a blind tasting and a discussion of terroir in America with David White, whose wine blog www.terroirist.com was voted 2013 Best Overall Wine Blog, and St. John’s College winemakers. Issues of sustainability and the pursuit of quality in winemaking will be addressed. St. John’s alumni winemakers include August Deimel (Keuka Spring Vineyards); Abe Schoener (The Scholium Project); Zach Rasmusen (Goldeneye); Rory Williams (Calder Wine Company); and Paul Speck (Henry of Pelham, Ontario). Following the Judgment of Annapolis, there will be dinner and wine in the spirit of the La Paulée de Meursault.
