The Arc recognizes community members

The ArcThe Arc Central Chesapeake Region, an organization that provides customizable, innovative supports and services to people with developmental disabilities and their families held their annual Awards Banquet in honor of staff and community participants and their involvement in improving the lives of those with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Kate Rollason, Executive Director, says, “The important work we do as an organization is directly correlated to the outpouring of support and passion from members of our community. We are fortunate to have, within our community, a talented and diverse pool of exemplary individuals who are able to give so freely of their time, energy, and resources.”

The Arc Central Chesapeake Region is honored to recognize the following exemplary groups and individuals:

 

  • Maryland House Delegate Robert Costa for the Lifetime Achievement Award for his tireless advocacy on behalf of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities.
  • Meg Yoast, owner of Dance Connection on Kent Island, and Ramona Burnett, Systems Navigator for the Partnership for Children, Families, and Youth, for the People First Award which recognizes an individual who has consistently demonstrated activities which promote the advancement of those strengths and abilities, as well as meeting people’s needs.
  • Linda Carter-Ferrier for the Democracy Award which recognizes an individual or group who are deeply involved in the democratic process and value the input of both people with disabilities and family members in decision-making, policies and procedures.
  • Sheriff Gary Hofman from the Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Department for the Public Service Award which recognizes those in the public eye who make special efforts to increase understanding of people with developmental disabilities and/or advocate for improvement of services that are available to people with disabilities.
  • Gerry Troisi from Crofton Wegmans and Jean Marotta from Central Middle School in Edgewater for the Visionary Leadership Award which recognizes an individual who has demonstrated strong leadership in systems change which advances the core values of The Arc.
  • Dave Rosenthal of Rosenthal & Associates for the Philanthropy Award which celebrates an individual or company demonstrating ongoing financial commitment and investment of time to support those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Jim & Ann Cowart of Annapolis for the Special Appreciation Award which is presented to individuals rendering truly outstanding service to The Arc and/or people with developmental disabilities.

 

The presentation of awards took place on March 25th at the Doubletree Hotel in Annapolis.  The Arc Central Chesapeake Region’s (CCR) Mission is to promote respect, create opportunities and advocate for equal rights for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
