Romeo & Juliet makes debut at Compass Rose Theater

Compass RoseThe greatest tragic romance of all time, told in the majestic language of the greatest playwright who ever lived, comes to Compass Rose Theater this spring in a fresh new production. William Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” opens Friday, March 14, and audiences will be able to see the classic story of first love and feuding families as it was meant to be seen – with the leading roles played by a 14 year old Juliet and a 17 year old Romeo.

Lucinda Merry-Browne, Compass Rose Theater Founding Artistic Director, will direct the production. Eli Pendry, a Compass Rose Theater student who appeared in Lost in Yonkers and Look Homeward, Angel, will play the part of Romeo. The role of Juliet will be played by Sydney Maloney, who has appeared in The Sound of Music and Annie at Olney Theatre Center. Renata Plecha, an experienced actor from the University of Minnesota, will appear as the Nurse. Michael Robinson, who has trained at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, will appear as Tybalt. Benvolio will be played by Shaina Higgins, a graduate of East Carolina University. Emily Kaye Lynn is a musical theatre graduate of Shenandoah Conservatory and will play the role of Mercutio. Toby Hessenauer, who has appeared in several Compass Rose productions, will play Friar Lawrence. Dan Reno, who played Hugh in Look Homeward Angel, will play Capulet. Lady Capulet will be played by Maggie Robertson, a graduate of Muhlenberg College. Kyle Lynch will appear as Montague and Friar John. Casey Baum, another Compass Rose student who appeared as Jem in To Kill a Mockingbird, will play the role of Balthasar. Matt Miller, graduate of The Catholic University, will play the part of Paris. Brenna Horner, who last appeared in These Shining Lives at Howard Community College, will play the Prince. An AACPS Performing and Visual Arts High School student, Sydney Knoll will appear as the Page.

“Romeo and Juliet” runs March 14 through April 20 with show times at 7:00pm on Thursdays, 8:00pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:00pm on Sundays. There will also be 2:00pm matinees on the final two Saturdays, April 12 and April 19.

Performances are held at Compass Rose Theater, located at 49 Spa Rd, Annapolis, Maryland 21401, across from The Westin Hotel. Our theater is fully handicapped accessible. Admission is $35 for adults, $30 for seniors and military (with a valid ID), and $20 for students (with a valid ID).
