Girls on the Run founder to speak in Annapolis

Molly Barker, Founder of Girls on the Run, is coming to Annapolis on March 19th to share her story about starting an organization that has now helped more than 100,000 girls in North America. This 7thAnnual Women’s Leadership Event, co-sponsored by Anne Arundel Women Giving Together and the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County, will take place on Wednesday, March 19th 6-8 pm, in the auditorium of Broadneck High School in Annapolis.

A dynamic speaker with an inspiring story, Molly started the Girls on the Run 12 week program for 3rdto 8th grade girls ways to help them untangle the stereotypes they bump into in middle school, and to live their lives with intention. She says, “we inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. We envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.”

Begun in North Carolina in 1996 with just 13 girls, today GOTR serves over 130,000 in 200 plus cities with the help of more than 55,000 volunteers. In Anne Arundel County, Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake has programs in several local elementary and middle schools.

The Molly Barker talk is part of a program to  promote the benefits of women’s leadership to the larger philanthropic community in Anne Arundel County. Anne Arundel Women Giving Together, a Giving Circle with the Community Foundation, brings together like-minded women to support and fund initiatives for women and families in Anne Arundel County.
