Caregiver’s conference set for April 26th

aadeptagingFamily and professional caregivers, social workers, nurses and others can get information and access resources at the 22nd annual Caregivers’ Conference set for 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve, 7795 Arundel Mills Boulevard in Hanover, MD.

The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities is once again teaming up with organizations and facilities to provide a day filled with useful and educational materials for both informal caregivers and professionals in the field. Topics will provide caregivers with information and practical tools.

Caregivers will have the chance to network with fellow caregivers. Vendors from local agencies and businesses will attend to share resources and information to assist caregivers with their needs.

Lon Kiefer, a nationally recognized speaker, will kick off the day with “A Seriously Funny Look at the Caregiver’s Dilemma.” Workshops throughout the day will cover topics such as understanding Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, current research on Alzheimer’s disease, integrative medicine, kinship care, Medicaid for long-term care, VA benefits, and hands-on caregiving.  The conference will conclude with the riveting reenactment of Rosie the Riveter by Mary Ann Jung.

Planning partners include Active Day Centers of Annapolis and Pasadena, Alzheimer’s Association, Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services, Gero-Resources LLC, Home Instead Senior Care, and Somerford Place Annapolis.
