Annapolis Beer Week kicks off with a muddy run

I was not sure if they were there to run, to drink, or both; but, more than 2000 people showed up yesterday morning at the 2nd Annual Beer Run to kick off Annapolis Beer Week!

The weather, while not cooperative, was certainly not a deterrent as people milled about under pavilions and tents sampling more than 40 unique beers, prancing around in crazy costumes, and yes–even running.

At the start, I was talking to the race official about out thoughts about the possible winner. I suggested a petite woman named Corey and was promptly rebuffed saying that she “didn’t the leg stride.”  A little more than six minutes later, Corey was leading the pack–handily.  In fact, she won the race-handily.  And the second place finisher (a male) looked down at her after the race and in the best line heard all day said, “what the hell?”

There were two heats, the first was a bit more serious and the second…well, the officials could not corral the people so there was not really a start–he just waved them on to the course for what was to be a jog at best with plenty of stops for beer!

The party continued and culminated with awards for the runners and for those in costume!  A headless turkey (maybe it was a chicken) won for best individual costume and a truly motley Motley Crue lookalike band won for the group costume.

Beer week continues today with Bands and Beer at Stand & Joe’s Saloon on West Street. The week is full of different events and will culminate next Friday with the 3rd Annual Drafts & Laughs comedy and beer festival AND the first Annual Wing Competition on Saturday.

You can save 20% off your Drafts & Laughs ticket right here by using the code eye2014.
