Pantelides names Acting City Manager

nnapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides announced that Brian Woodward has been named Acting City Manager, replacing Virginia Burke, whose last day is today, Friday, March 21.

Mr. Woodward was confirmed by City Council as the Recreation and Parks Director on June 18, 2012. He is a graduate of University of Maryland where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Resource Conservation and Wildlife Biology and obtained his Master of Science Degree in Public Administration from George Washington University.

In his 16 months as Director of the Annapolis Recreation & Parks Department, Brian Woodward has shown outstanding leadership and fiscal management. Some of his many achievements include the following:

· Restructured the Operating Budget in order to foster accountability of managers, increase transparency of expenses and revenues, and to set goals and objectives for cost-based fees.
· Reorganized the Department, creating accountable managers, pushes decisions to appropriate levels, aligns budget authority with program responsibility, and fosters career ladders along with experiences for staff to take on increasingly elevated responsibilities.
· Created a customer service orientation among all staff by requiring quick response times to inquiries and concerns, improved training in customer service and empowering staff to be able to resolve customer issues at the appropriate organizational level.

Ms. Burke became the Acting City Manager in January of this year and resigned to pursue other opportunities. Mr. J.P.”Flip” Walters will be Acting Recreation and Parks Director as the search for a City Manager continues.
