Fire department releases info on fatal Deale fire

Just after 1 a.m. this morning, Anne Arundel County firefighters were dispatched to a reported dwelling fire in the 600 block of East Marshall Avenue in the Deale area of Anne Arundel County.  The fire was called into 911 by neighbors who were unsure if anyone was trapped in the home.

The first unit to arrive on the scene reported heavy fire throughout a one-story, single family home.  Due to the fact that there are no hydrants in the area, firefighters immediately requested a 2nd Alarm assignment.  More than 80 firefighters from Anne Arundel, Calvert, Prince Georges Counties and the Annapolis City Fire Department worked about 30 minutes to bring the incident under control.  Upon searching the residence, firefighters located the body of an adult male. At this time the name of the victim and the immediate cause of death are being withheld pending positive identification and the results of an autopsy being conducted by the State Medical Examiner.

The fire caused an estimated $65,000 in damages to the home.  The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation however, it is not believed to be incendiary in nature.  The preliminary investigation into the incident did reveal that there were no operable smoke alarms in the home.  No other injuries were reported. If the cause of death is determined to be fire related, this will be the 1st fire death in the County for 2014.
