Library awards prizes to winners of short video contest

AACPLRepresentatives of the Anne Arundel County Public Library will award long-awaited prizes to the winners of its January short video contest at a public event on Wednesday, March 19 at the West County Area Library.

Local parents were asked to record their preschool-aged children explaining why they love the library in one minute or less. The contest was organized to celebrate the addition of morning hours at many of the library system’s 15 branch locations this January, a change that spurred a greater commitment to early literacy programming.

After a long deliberation over 18 excellent entries, three families were chosen as the winners of the grand prize and two runner-up prizes:

  • Miles and Oliver Lineberger, ages 3 and 5, of Odenton took the top prize of four season passes to Six Flags America for their pirate-themed video.
  • Emily Curtin, 5, of Pasadena won a runner-up award of four tickets to Medieval Times at Arundel Mills Mall for her puppet show entry.
  • Josiah Meyer, 4, of Edgewater will be rewarded with a box-seat ticket package for the Bowie Baysox for his video chronicling a day of reading and checking out books at the library.

“These four children truly embody the enthusiastic attitude toward learning that we try to cultivate through our early literacy programming,” said Shelley Davenport, AACPL Programming and Outreach Coordinator. “We’re pleased to be able to reward them for their creative and imaginative videos.”

All three families will be in attendance at the awards presentation, which will take place at 6:15 pm — just before a Family Storytime event. They’ll be joined by Davenport, Library CEO Skip Auld and Sneaks the Library Cat. The three winning videos will be screened to the storytime crowd.
