Arts Council hosts exhibit at BWI

Into the Sunset by Richard Niewerth is one of the paintings included in “The Sky is the Limit” exhibit opening on March 15th at the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in the Departures area between concourse C & D.

“The Sky is the Limit” is the name of a new art exhibition, sponsored by the Arts Council of Anne Arundel County opening March 15th at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.  The juried show featuring the work of Anne Arundel County artists will include 23 paintings, drawings, and photographs on display between concourses C & D in the departures area through June 20th.

This is the second BWI exhibit sponsored by the Arts Council this year. The previous exhibit “Hoof, Paw, and Claw”, enthusiastically viewed by airport visitors, was on display from November 1, 2013 through March 6, 2014.  Planning in currently underway for a third exhibit to run through the summer and fall and artists are encouraged to check the Arts Council website (acaac.org) for future information and entry guidelines.

The Arts Council exhibits are juried by a committee of four that include: Committee Chair Roberta Pardo, who studied industrial design in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and fine arts at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, Wil Scott, a photographer and Director of Adult Programs at the National Gallery of Art, Teddi Schulman, a lifelong arts enthusiast and former arts consultant; and April Nyman, Arts Council Executive Director.  Artists must be residents of Anne Arundel County and over 18 years of age.

The Arts Council of Anne Arundel County provides grants and support to over forty nonprofit organizations.  Providing a resource for the cultural arts community through advocacy, funding, programming, and promotions; the Arts Council supports a variety of groups that include Maryland Hall, Anne Arundel County Trust for Preservation, Children’s Theater of Annapolis, and the Shady Side Captain Avery Museum.  The Arts Council also administers the Arts in Education Program serving both public and private Anne Arundel County Schools, which provides grant funding to bring performances and artists into auditoriums and classrooms.
