Eye On Annapolis learned that Acting City Manager Virginia Burke has submitted her resignation and given the City her two-weeks notice.

Just this evening, Mayor Mike Pantelides said that the City would not be embarking on a nationwide search for a replacement for former City Manager Mike Mallinoff, but would seek local candidates. The Mayor said the position would be advertised on the City’s website.

Mallinoff was released by Pantelides just after New Years.

This puts the City in a very precarious position without any credentialed leadership in two critical departments–City Manager and Planning and Zoning.  When Mallinoff, the number two man in the City left, his assistant stepped up. Effectively, we have lost the Captain and the First mate of this ship. According to Pantelides’ 2015 budget, it also appears that he does not plan to fund a replacement for ousted Planning & Zoning Director, Jon Arason.

We have reached out to Pantelides for a comment on the resignation of the Acting City Manager.
